Mawrgan Shaw is an Australian-Canadian visual artist and independent animator. Earning a Masters of Digital Film from Deakin University and a Bachelor of Media & Communications from Swinburne University of Technology, Mawrgan is a member of the Toronto Animated Image Society in Canada.
Mawrgan creates 2D frame-by-frame animated stories that are inspired by our sense of self and the intersection with our physical reality. Using both traditional and digital media, she continues to explore these themes, while focusing on how starting in childhood and beyond, we make meaning in the world.
Mawrgan's short animated film 'Tortoise' is premiering in Australia at the Melbourne International Animation Festival in May, with its North American premiere at Les Sommets du cinéma d'animation in Canada also in May, 2026.
Mawrgan's first ever exhibition 'Interwoven Marks' opened in April 2026 at SOL Gallery in Melbourne, Australia.
Mawrgan's previous short animated film, 'Forgotten' won Best Short Film at the Warburton Film Festival (2022), Favourite Canadian Short at the Kingston Canadian Film Festival (2021) and was nominated for Best Animation at the St Kilda Film Festival (2022).
