
Mawrgan Shaw is an Australian-Canadian visual artist and independent animator. Earning a Masters of Digital Film from Deakin University and a Bachelor of Media & Communications from Swinburne University of Technology, Mawrgan is a member of the Toronto Animated Image Society in Canada.
Mawrgan creates hand-drawn, frame-by-frame animated stories that are inspired by our sense of self and the intersection with our physical reality. Using both traditional and digital media, she continues to explore these themes, while focusing on how starting in childhood and beyond, we make meaning in the world.
Mawrgan's most recent short animated film 'Tortoise' premiered in May 2026 in Australia at the Melbourne International Animation Festival and in Canada at Les Sommets du cinéma d'animation. Among others, Tortoise has also been selected for the renowned St Kilda Film Festival, the Ottawa International Animation Festival and the Etiuda & Anima International Film Festival.
Mawrgan's first ever exhibition 'Interwoven Marks' opened in April 2026 at SOL Gallery in Melbourne, Australia.
Mawrgan's previous short animated film, 'Forgotten' won Best Short Film at the Warburton Film Festival (2022) and was nominated for Best Animation at the St Kilda Film Festival (2022).
Mawrgan's most recent animated music video was released in May 2026 for electronic artist Waxman (CA). Mawrgan has been commissioned to create music videos for artists such as Bear's Den (UK), Charlie Cunningham (UK), Sameday (GER) Pete Hollis (USA), and Tony Halchak (USA).
